To celebrate the opening of our call for programme participants we wanted to give you a first little teaser of a couple of programme items. If you have ideas of programme items you’d like to be part of, please go and sign up!
We are currently planning the programme for Archipelacon. There will be four days of programming about various topics, including literature, movies, tv, comics, and fandom. The programme item styles will vary from academic presentations to light-hearted quizzes, and everything in between.
To bring our members the best possible program, we’re looking for programme participants. We’re looking forward to a diverse group of people taking part in the discussion. To submit ideas and volunteer to be on the programme,
We’re happy to announce that the convention already has over 600 members! The 600th person to sign up was Kaisa Kortekallio from Helsinki. To celebrate she gets a surprise prize – Joe Abercrombie’s Ase itse. Congratulations!
If you are looking for someone to share a room with to bring down the costs, please fill out this form. We will try to find someone for you to talk to about sharing a room. We take no responsibility for this, all we will do is to match you up according to preferences and give you each other’s email addresses. The rest (booking, paying etc) is up to you. And if you don’t hear from us,
The booking information for accommodation during the convention is now available. We have reserved a quota for our members in several hotels near the convention venue. There’s a variety of differently-priced options, the most inexpensive being the floor accommodation at a nearby school. More information on accommodation options and how to book them can be found on the hotel info page, as well as links to some additional places you can stay at (but where we don’t have a reserved quota).
On Friday the Finnish Parliament votes on whether everyone should be given equal marriage rights. We think that the same rights and opportunities for everybody should be a no-brainer and therefore have co-signed the #metahdomme pledge in support of equal marriage.
We support diversity in fandom, and have donated memberships to Con or Bust, a fund that helps fans of colour attend sff conventions. Traveling to conventions can be expensive, but Con or Bust can also assist with the travel costs. The current period for requesting assistance to attend a convention ends next Tuesday, so if you’re eligible and would like to attend Archipelacon, send in your request now! We hope to see you in Mariehamn next June!
