George R.R. Martin (born 1948) is an American novelist, screenwriter and television producer. His professional writing career started in early 1970s and he has been writing both short stories and novels in science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. At the moment he is best known for his epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire which is also adapted for Game of Thrones television series by HBO. Martin is a contributor and editor of Wild Cards series and many anthologies.
He has won several Hugo, Nebula, Locus and other awards and has been granted World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement. His works has been translated for numerous languages, including Finnish and Swedish.
Martin lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife Parris. As an enthusiastic movie and tv series fan, he purchased, restored and opened his own Jean Cocteau cinema in Santa Fe in 2013.
